I believe this only happens later in the summer. The pool was empty (it did say this on their website) and the area around it was very tiny, no loungers were put out. The website pictures of the hotel show what appears to be a lovely pool and loungers but this is not how it appeared while we were there. Also, many groups arriving by coach so a lot of noise morning and night! The couple above us had a small child and we could hear every noise and the child running up and down first thing in the morning, very noisy with groups coming and going at all times Between 11pm and 6am it was generally quiet. A large, firm comfortable bed but the pillows were extremely hard and lumpy! They were the worst ever and we have stayed in a lot of hotels! The main down side was the lack of view from the window (see pictures) very unpleasant looking at a wall and this made the room quite dark.
SCUDO DI FRANCIA HOTEL TV
TV in the room but only BBC news channel for us. Our bedroom was a standard room, it was very clean and the bathroom was large with a good strong shower (much hotter in the evening than the morning). Marta in particular was so helpful and lovely, nothing was too much trouble and she made us feel really welcomed every day. We only had breakfast during our stay and this was fine, the self service breakfast was always yoghurt, fruit, cereal and cold meats, cheese, scrambled eggs and bacon and was plentiful and nicely presented. The hotel has a nicely decorated and pleasant lounge area and dining area. We were advised by many people not todrive into the bigger towns and having seen Florence I am so glad we didnt. The trains were incredibly easy to use, on time and cheap. We travelled everywhere by train - into Florence, Luca, Pisa and some of the smaller towns. We didn't hire a car and were glad as there is only parking on the roads with payment meters, quite expensive. The hotel is close to the town centre and the train station is an easy walk away. Montecatini Terme is just over 40 minutes’ drive from Pisa and Florence, so you’ve got plenty of day trip options during your stay here. While spa treatments have modernised, there are many original spas still standing, including the grand Tettuccio Terme – one of the region’s best.

The town’s spas are also located here, and are some of the best known in all of Tuscany. The upper town is most historic, with pretty cobbled lanes, stunning views and a 12th-century church. One of the best ways to go between the two sections is via the town’s historic funicular railway, which has been running since 1888. Like many of the towns in the region, this one is split between a lower and upper section, known as Montecatini Bassa (lower) and Montecatini Alto (upper). Today, however, the town mostly dates from the medieval period, and offers plenty of historic sites for you to explore. The area has been inhabited as far back as 10,000 BC, thanks mainly to the impressive natural spa located in the town. One of Tuscany’s most prominent spa towns, Montecatini Terme is an intoxicating blend of historic architecture, beautiful scenery and some great local attractions.
